Project Child Indonesia and Mercedes-Benz Delivered Sanitation and Hygiene Facilities to 10 Schools in Yogyakarta

Project Child Indonesia initiated the provision of hand washing facilities in elementary schools through the Sanitation and Hygiene Program. We collaborated with Mercedes-Benz in the development process until the handover of hand washing facilities, which was also supported by Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Sleman. These facilities have been handed over to 10 elementary schools in Sleman, Yogyakarta and completed in December 2021. The schools are SDN Pojok, SDN Sinduadi Barat, SDN Sinduadi 2, SDN Jombor Lor, SDN Jatisari, SDN Tlogoadi, SDN Plaosan 1, SDN Gabahan, SDN Kaweden, and SDN Purwosari.

The COVID-19 pandemic encourages people to be more hygienic and implement health protocols in order to prevent the virus transmission. Thus, it is very important to create a clean environment to support health care, especially during the pandemic, to reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus. The Sanitation and Hygiene Program became our big theme in developing sustainable programs to support clean and healthy living behavior campaigns related to the 6th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Clean Water and Sanitation.

Through the Sanitation and Hygiene Program, Project Child Indonesia provides access for more than 3,600 school residents by providing hand washing facilities for elementary schools in Sleman, Yogyakarta. The provision of these facilities is followed by giving health education using digital booklets, educational posters, and also educational videos about practices related to sanitation and hygiene.

The hand washing facilities are expected to be used by the entire school community, especially elementary school students to wash their hands regularly as a way to prevent the transmission of viruses and bacteria in the pandemic situation. We also hope that the health education that has been provided can be understood and applied properly.

In early 2021, Project Child Indonesia aspired to contribute continuously in the midst of a pandemic situation, especially for children in elementary schools. With the full support of Mercedes-Benz, the Sanitation and Hygiene Program can run well. We are very grateful for this collaboration and are very thankful to Mercedes-Benz for supporting our program.
